About State Bank of India

State Bank of India is India’s largest public sector bank, and this recruitment is run by its Central Recruitment & Promotion Department at Corporate Centre, Mumbai. The notification itself records that SBI was named World’s Best Consumer Bank 2026 by Global Finance, New York (second year in a row), and India’s Strongest Banking Brand 2026 by Brand Finance. For a candidate, this recruitment is a direct entry route into SBI’s Specialist Cadre as an officer, without going through the Bank’s general Probationary Officer exam track.

Local context: Kolkata as a suggested posting location

Kolkata is one of the two locations the notification suggests for this post, alongside Hyderabad. This is relevant for candidates based in West Bengal, North Bengal and Sikkim who currently work in trade finance or forex operations at other banks and are looking for a posting closer to home. That said, the notification states the place of posting is indicative only, and the Bank can post a selected candidate anywhere in India at its sole discretion; requests for a specific centre will not be entertained. Unlike SBI’s regular clerk or Probationary Officer recruitment, which brings in freshers through a written exam, this notification hires directly into a specialist role based on existing bank experience and a professional certification. This comparison is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.

SBI Trade Finance Officer Recruitment 2026 – Selection process

The selection process for SBI Trade Finance Officer Recruitment 2026 is through shortlisting followed by an interview; there is no written examination. Merely meeting the minimum qualification and experience does not entitle a candidate to an interview call — the shortlisting committee decides the parameters, and the Bank’s decision is final.

  1. Shortlisting — based on parameters decided by the Bank; provisional, without document verification at this stage.
  2. Interview — carries 100 marks. The qualifying marks are decided by the Bank.
  3. Merit list — prepared in descending order of interview marks only. Where more than one candidate scores the cut-off marks, ranking is by age, older candidates ranked higher.

Outstation candidates called for interview after shortlisting are reimbursed economy-class airfare by the shortest route (or actual travel cost, whichever is lower), capped at ₹10,000 to-and-fro, on submission of tickets and boarding passes; local transport such as taxis is not reimbursed. Candidates found ineligible at the interview stage are not reimbursed any fare.

Application fee

Application fee and intimation charges (non-refundable): ₹750 for General/EWS/OBC candidates. No fee for SC/ST/PwBD candidates. The fee once paid will not be refunded on any account, nor adjusted against any other exam or selection.

Should you apply for this SBI Trade Finance Officer Recruitment 2026?

SBI Trade Finance Officer Recruitment 2026 suits candidates who already work in trade finance, forex operations or documentary credit processing at a scheduled commercial bank, and who hold or can obtain the mandatory IIBF Forex Operations certification. It does not suit fresh graduates with no banking experience — the experience requirement (1 year for JMGS-I, 3 years for MMGS-II) is mandatory and must be in an Officer/Official role, not a clerical or training capacity. Because selection is through interview alone with no written test, and only 35 posts are on offer nationally, competition among eligible experienced candidates is likely to be real rather than a formality. One trade-off worth weighing: the post is in SBI’s Specialist Cadre, which the notification says has no provision for conversion into the General cadre, so this is a distinct career track rather than a stepping stone to a generalist banking role. The suggested posting cities are Hyderabad and Kolkata, but a candidate should be prepared for posting anywhere in India, since transfer requests to a specific centre will not be entertained.
