About IOCL

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise and India’s largest oil marketing and refining company, with operations spanning refining, pipelines, marketing, petrochemicals and natural gas. IndianOil will hold the Computer Based Test at 83 centres across India, and Siliguri and Guwahati are both on the official list. Candidates from Darjeeling, Kalimpong and the wider North Bengal and North East region can sit the CBT without travelling to a metro city, though IndianOil can still change or reassign a candidate’s centre at its own discretion.

IndianOil ran separate recruitment drives for Grade A and Grade E0 executives in September 2025, each under its own notification; this 2026 drive is unusual in combining Grade A, Grade A0 and Grade E0 posts under one advertisement and one CBT.

Important dates

IndianOil has listed four key dates for this recruitment. All dates are tentative and subject to change — candidates should check iocl.com regularly for updates.

The call letter for the CBT will be issued around 10 days before the exam date. Though the CBT itself runs for 150 minutes, the notification advises candidates to expect to be at the venue for about 4 hours in total, to allow time for identity verification, login and instructions.

Vacancy details and salary

IndianOil released the vacancy breakdown as a separate annexure alongside the detailed advertisement, both dated 14 August 2026. The full discipline-wise and category-wise breakdown is below; the rows sum to the stated total of 470.

Grade ‘A’ — Graduate Engineer, Officer (Marketing), Officer (Law)

Grade ‘A0’ — Assistant Quality Control Officer

Grade ‘E0’ — Diploma Engineer

PwBD sub-quota (horizontal reservation, within the totals above)

PwBD candidates are not eligible for the Safety (Grade E0) post — the notification states this is a hazardous-industry role involving critical safety operations.

Selected candidates also receive Dearness Allowance and other allowances, HRA or subsidised housing (depending on posting), medical facilities, gratuity, contributory provident fund, group personal accident insurance, leave encashment, LTC/LFA, superannuation benefit fund, conveyance advance and Performance Related Pay, as per Corporation rules. Service bond period is a minimum of 3 years from the date of joining.

Eligibility

Qualification, minimum marks and age differ by post. Candidates should check the section matching the post they intend to apply for.

Graduate Engineer (Grade A)

Open for seven disciplines: Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & IT, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, and Mechanical.

• Qualification: full-time regular B.Tech/BE or equivalent degree, from an institution recognised by AICTE/UGC.
• Minimum marks: General/EWS/OBC(NCL): 65%; SC/ST/PwBD: 55%.
• Maximum age: 26 years (as on 1 July 2026 — check your exact age here).
• The notification also lists specific accepted degree-name variants for each discipline — for example, under Chemical it also accepts Chemical Technology, Petrochem Engineering and similar titles. Candidates whose degree title differs from the exact discipline name should check the full variant list in the official notification PDF.
• Candidates with a combined/interdisciplinary degree such as Mechatronics or Robotics are not eligible.

Officer (Marketing) (Grade A)

• Qualification: 2-year full-time regular MBA or PGDBA (AIU-equivalent) with specialisation in Marketing Management, from an AICTE/UGC-recognised institution. The Marketing specialisation must be stated on the final degree certificate.
• Minimum marks: General/EWS/OBC(NCL): 60%; SC/ST/PwBD: 55%.
• Maximum age: 28 years (as on 1 July 2026).

Officer (Law) (Grade A)

• Qualification: graduate degree in any discipline plus LLB, OR a 5-year integrated LLB degree, recognised by the Bar Council of India.
• Minimum marks: General/EWS/OBC(NCL): 60% in each degree; SC/ST/PwBD: 55%.
• Work experience: minimum 2 years post-qualification (as on 30 June 2026), in litigation, arbitration/ADR, or contract drafting and legal opinion work — with a law firm, private or public organisation, a government legal department, or independent practice. Internships, teaching and part-time work are not counted.
• Maximum age: 30 years (as on 1 July 2026).

Assistant Quality Control Officer (Grade A0)

• Qualification: Master’s degree in Chemistry (or Inorganic, Organic, Analytical, Physical, Applied or Industrial Chemistry), from an AICTE/UGC-recognised institution.
• Minimum marks: General/EWS/OBC(NCL): 60%; SC/ST/PwBD: 55%.
• Work experience: minimum 2 years cumulative, in Testing/R&D/Quality Control at a petroleum, petrochemical, polymer or fertiliser unit laboratory, and/or at an NABL-accredited laboratory (Chemical discipline, Lubricants/Petroleum group).
• Maximum age: 30 years (as of 1 July 2026).

Diploma Engineer (Grade E0)

Open for three disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical, and Safety.

• Qualification: full-time regular 3-year Diploma in Engineering, from an institution recognised by AICTE/UGC/State Board. For the Safety post, candidates additionally need a Diploma in Industrial Safety (minimum 1 year) from a recognised institute or technical education board.
• Minimum marks: General/EWS/OBC(NCL): 65%; SC/ST: 55%.
• Maximum age: 26 years (as on 1 July 2026).
• Candidates who separately hold a professional qualification such as BE/B.Tech, MBA, CA, CS, CMA, MCA or PhD are not eligible for this post.

Age relaxation (candidate is eligible if born on/after)

Common conditions for all posts

• Final degree/diploma marksheet must be available by 30 September 2026.
• Qualifications obtained through part-time, correspondence, distance or online learning are not eligible.
• A qualifying degree/diploma in a discipline not listed in the notification is not eligible, though IOCL reserves the right to consider other disciplines at its own discretion.
• CGPA/grade-based results must be converted to a percentage using the candidate’s own institute/university formula; a conversion certificate must be submitted at document verification, if shortlisted.
• Degrees or diplomas from foreign institutions must carry equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) or UGC.
• For Graduate Engineer applicants with a dual or integrated ME/M.Tech: dual-degree candidates are assessed on their BE/B.Tech percentage only; integrated-degree candidates are assessed on the overall ME/M.Tech percentage.

IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026 – Selection process

The selection process for IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026 has three stages, and clearing the CBT does not by itself guarantee a call for the next stage.

1. Computer Based Test (CBT): 100 objective questions — Section A, General Aptitude (60 questions: Quantitative Aptitude 20, Logical Reasoning 15, Verbal Ability 15) in 60 minutes; Section B, Domain Knowledge (50 questions) in 90 minutes. Each question carries 1 mark, and 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. Eligible PwBD candidates using a scribe get 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour.
2. Group Discussion (GD) and Group Task (GT): candidates are shortlisted by CBT marks, domain-wise, in descending order.
3. Personal Interview (PI): the final stage before the merit list is prepared.

Minimum composite score required to make the merit list: General/EWS/OBC(NCL) 45%, SC/ST 40%, PwBD 30%.

Document verification for eligibility happens only at the GD/GT/PI stage, using original documents. IndianOil this year also allows candidates to voluntarily link a DigiLocker account so digitally signed documents can be accessed for faster verification, though this is optional and not mandatory. Candidates from SC/ST/PwBD categories attending the CBT are reimbursed 3rd AC rail fare (or actual fare, whichever is lower); all candidates called for GD/GT/PI are reimbursed 2nd AC rail fare under the same rule, provided the one-way distance from their correspondence address is at least 30 km.

Application fee

The application fee is ₹1,000 plus applicable GST for General, EWS and OBC(NCL) candidates. SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempted from the application fee. The fee is non-refundable once paid, including in case of a payment gateway or bank charge, and can be paid online through debit/credit cards, internet banking, IMPS, cash cards/mobile wallets or UPI.

1. Visit the official IndianOil website and open the “Apply Online” link for this recruitment, or use the direct application portal.
2. Click “Click here for New Registration” and enter your name, contact details and email ID to generate a Provisional Registration Number and Password.
3. Log in and fill in personal, educational and other details, using “Save & Next” to save progress as you go.
4. Upload your photograph, signature, and left thumb impression as per the prescribed specifications (see checklist below).
5. Preview the completed application form and verify every field carefully — no changes are allowed after final submission.
6. Click “Complete Registration,” then go to the “Payment” tab and pay the application fee, if applicable.
7. Submit the form, and save or print the system-generated application form for your records.

Documents to keep ready

• Recent passport-style colour photograph (4.5cm × 3.5cm), taken in April 2026 or later, scanned to 200×230 pixels, 20–50 KB. See the site’s photo & signature resizer if your scan doesn’t match these specs.
• Signature in black ink on white paper — not in capital letters — scanned to 140×60 pixels, 10–20 KB.
• Left thumb impression in black or blue ink on white paper, scanned to 240×240 pixels at 200 DPI, 20–50 KB. Candidates without a left thumb may use the right thumb instead.
• A valid personal email ID and mobile number — these cannot be changed once registered.
• Category certificate details (EWS/OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/PwBD), if claiming reservation. The certificate itself is not uploaded at registration, but its details — issue date, certificate number and issuing authority — must be entered in the form.
• Work experience documents, for Law Officer and Assistant Quality Control Officer applicants only, needed at the document verification stage rather than at registration.

Should you apply?

This recruitment suits engineering graduates, MBA (Marketing) graduates, law graduates and Chemistry postgraduates who want a long-term, structured public-sector career rather than a private-sector role that may offer faster pay growth but less built-in security. A confirmed post at IndianOil comes with a defined pay scale, provident fund, gratuity and other benefits set out in the notification, which most private employers in the same field do not guarantee upfront. Diploma holders without a professional qualification like BE/B.Tech or MBA have a genuine, separate route in through the Grade E0 posts.

Competition typically tracks how many seats are open in a discipline: Mechanical and Electrical Grade A have the most seats (118 and 75), while Law and Chemical have the fewest (10 and 16), making the latter two comparatively more selective per seat, even though total applicant volumes will differ too. Diploma Engineer applicants should also note that professional-qualification holders (BE/B.Tech, MBA, CA, CS, CMA, MCA, PhD) are barred from that post, which narrows the applicant pool there.

The clearest trade-off is mobility versus certainty: selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India, including overseas offices, and must serve a minimum three-year bond. Candidates who need to stay in one city, or are not ready to commit to a multi-year bond, should weigh this before applying.
