Selection process

Selection for the Punjab Court Clerk posts has three stages. Merit depends only on marks in the computer-based test.

  1. Computer-based test (CBT) of two hours and 100 marks.
  2. Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), which only qualifies a candidate and adds no marks to merit.
  3. Checking of original testimonials and interaction.

The High Court decides how many candidates, category-wise, are called for the CPT and for document checking. The notice states that no TA/DA is paid for the exam or for document checking.

Exam pattern

SubjectTypeQuestionsMarks
General KnowledgeObjective5050
English CompositionObjective2020
English CompositionSubjective4 tasks30
Total––100

The four subjective tasks carry these marks.

  • Essay of 150 words, 10 marks
  • Letter, 5 marks
  • Precis, 5 marks
  • Translation from Punjabi to English, 10 marks

Candidates need 33% in each subject and 40% in aggregate to qualify. Every wrong answer costs 1/4 mark, and unattempted questions carry no credit or penalty. Candidates type the subjective part on the computer. It is checked only for candidates who score 33% or more in General Knowledge. If the CBT runs in several shifts, objective marks are normalised by the standard deviation method.

Computer Proficiency Test

The Punjab Court Clerk CPT has two parts. Part I is a Spreadsheet Test of 10 marks and 10 minutes, and candidates need 4 or more marks. Part II is a typing test in English at 30 words per minute. It is checked only for candidates who score 4 or more in Part I.

Candidates with a locomotor disability can apply for CPT exemption with a disability certificate. Other persons with benchmark disability need a disability certificate and a medical certificate. The medical certificate must state that the candidate cannot type at 30 words per minute. It must come from the Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon or Medical Superintendent of a government healthcare institution.

Persons with disability under Section 2(s) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 need only the medical certificate. All requests must be submitted within 15 days of the CBT result, and the Competent Authority’s decision is final.

Merit, answer key and re-checking

The select list for the Punjab Court Clerk posts is made strictly on CBT marks. If marks tie, the older candidate ranks higher. If the date of birth is also the same, names are placed alphabetically from A to Z.

The S.S.S.C. will provide a provisional answer key on sssc.gov.in. Candidates can raise objections at ₹25 per objection, which is non-refundable, and can file cross-objections. Each one needs the proposed correct answer, reasons and documentary proof. It must be filed on the prescribed link within the stipulated time. Re-evaluation is not allowed. Re-checking costs ₹500 per answer sheet, paid by Indian Postal Order within thirty days of the final result.
