Pay, allowances and increment

• Night Duty Allowance applies only if deployed on night shift due to exigency of production work, and Risk Allowance applies for similar type of work — both paid at par with regular employees as per extant rules.
• Female personnel are entitled to Maternity Benefits as per the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961.

Contract duration and termination

• The engagement is initially for ONE year, and may be extended up to a maximum of FOUR years from the date of engagement (including the initial period), based on OFDR’s requirement and the individual’s performance.
• The tenure ends automatically on completion of the maximum four-year period, without any further notice.
• The employment can be terminated at any time during the tenure by either party giving one month’s notice, or by payment of Basic Pay + DA in the Consolidated Remuneration in lieu of notice.
• The notification states plainly that this tenure-based engagement does not confer any right to claim the status of a regular employee of the company. Tenure-based personnel are not entitled to promotions, OT allowance, loans/advances, medical facilities (beyond emergency use at OF hospitals), contingency advance, school fee reimbursement, LTC/LTA, study leave, or sponsorship for higher studies.
• Personnel get 30 days of leave per year (2.5 days credited per calendar month, accumulable up to 30 days and encashable after one year), plus 1 day of Casual Leave for each complete calendar month.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualification: Ex-apprentice of the AOCP trade or its feeder trades — IMCP, MMCP, LACP, PPO, Fitter General, Machinist, Turner, Sheet Metal Worker, Electrician, Electronic Mechanic, Boiler Attendant, Mechanic Industrial Electronics, or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic — from an Ordnance Factory, OR from a Government/private organisation having affiliation from a Government ITI/Diploma institute.

Age limit: Between 18 and 40 years as on the last date (the 21st day of publication of the advertisement in Employment News) of receipt of application. Candidates can use the age calculator to check their exact age once that cut-off date is confirmed.

Selection Process

Selection is based only on marks in the NCTVT (NAC) exam and a Trade Test/Practical Test, taken together in order of merit — there is no separate written exam conducted by OFDR itself.

1. NCTVT (NAC) Exam — carries 80% weightage in the merit list.
2. Trade Test / Practical Test — carries 20% weightage. The cut-off percentage for calling candidates to the Trade Test is decided by OFDR.
3. Merit list — prepared from the combined marks of the NCTVT (NAC) exam and the Trade Test/Practical Test.
4. Document Verification — candidates who qualify in the NCTVT (NAC) exam and the Trade Test are called for Document Verification in order of merit, limited to the number of posts notified (discipline/category-wise). If candidates are rejected at this stage for missing documents or not meeting the age, qualification or experience criteria, additional candidates are called from the merit list to fill the gap.

Submitting the application does not guarantee a Call Letter for the Trade Test. Only shortlisted candidates are informed, and this is done through post and e-mail. SC/ST candidates are paid second-class travelling allowance by the shortest route, on production of bus/train tickets and their caste/community certificate at document verification; other candidates travelling for the Trade Test/Practical Test do so at their own expense.

Resolution of tie

If candidates end up with equal merit, OFDR resolves it in this order: first, higher marks in the NAC issued by NCTVT (now NCVT); then preference to Ex-Trade Apprentices of OFDR itself, followed by those from other Ordnance Factories; then preference to candidates of the AOCP trade over other feeder trades; any remaining tie is settled by date of birth, with the older candidate preferred.
