About CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories

CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) is a laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), working in the field of aerospace research and development. It is based at HAL Airport Road, Kodihalli, Bengaluru. For a candidate, an MTS post here is an entry point into a central government scientific establishment, with the pay, allowances and service benefits available to CSIR employees.

How This Vacancy Compares

This is a small, single-post (MTS) vacancy limited to Bengaluru, with the written exam also held only in Bengaluru — candidates cannot request another exam centre. Multi-Tasking Staff vacancies of this kind, at Pay Level-1 of the 7th CPC, are commonly advertised across various central government laboratories and departments; candidates who are open to relocating can also track other central MTS-type notifications for similar entry-level, non-technical support roles.

Selection Process

Selection is based entirely on one written examination; there is no separate skill test or interview stage mentioned in this notification. Eligible candidates, as screened by the Screening-cum-Selection Committee, are called for the exam and ranked by merit based on their score.

  1. Screening of applications based on documents and information submitted.
  2. OMR-based Objective Type Multiple Choice Written Examination — 150 questions, 2 hours, standard of Class X, conducted only in Bengaluru. No request for change of centre or date will be entertained.
  3. Preparation of merit list based on exam performance.
  4. Document verification of the required original certificates.

The exam has four sections — General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and English Language — each carrying 3 marks per correct answer with 1 negative mark per wrong answer. Questions are set in English, Hindi and Kannada, except the English Language section, which is in English only.

Tie-breaking order (if candidates score equal marks): fewer negative marks, then older date of birth, then earlier date of acquiring the essential qualification, then alphabetical order of first name.

Application Fee

A non-refundable fee of ₹500 must be paid only through a Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of “The Director, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories”, payable at Bengaluru, and enclosed with the hard-copy application. No other mode of payment is accepted.

Fee exemption: SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen (ESM), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and all women candidates are exempted from the application fee.

Should You Apply?

This vacancy suits candidates with a 10th-standard qualification looking for a stable, central government support-staff role with regular pay scale, DA, HRA, NPS and other CSIR employee benefits. It particularly suits candidates based in or near Bengaluru, since the written exam is held only there and no travel allowance is paid for the exam.

With only 6 posts open nationally and a purely offline application process, competition is likely to be high relative to the number of seats, and the qualification bar (10th pass) means the applicant pool can be large. Candidates should also weigh the trade-off that the post carries All India Service Liability — after selection, a transfer to any other CSIR laboratory in India is possible, even though the initial posting is Bengaluru. The role itself is a support/office-assistance position, not a technical or promotion-fast-track post, so candidates should apply with realistic expectations about the nature of the work.
