Route A needs a Master’s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade) in a concerned, relevant or allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. The candidate must also have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) of UGC or the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). NET Exemption, Good Academic Record and Relaxations

Candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme before 11 July 2009 are exempt from NET, SLET or SET for Assistant Professor posts if all five conditions are met:

1. The Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode.
2. At least two external examiners evaluated the thesis.
3. An open Ph.D. viva voce was held.
4. The candidate published two research papers from the Ph.D. work, and at least one is in a refereed journal.
5. The candidate presented at least two papers based on the Ph.D. work in conferences or seminars sponsored, funded or supported by UGC, the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), CSIR or a similar agency.
