How this compares to other current openings

ERNET India’s Smart Classroom posts are contract-based, project-linked roles at a central government autonomous body — different from a permanent, exam-based sarkari job. This kind of role typically offers a faster hiring process (screening plus interview, no written exam) and pay that can rise sharply with seniority, from the entry-level Project Engineer grade up to Project Manager Level 02. The trade-off is that the appointment is tied to a specific project and its funding cycle, unlike a permanent post. This comparison is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm current openings and their terms independently.

Should you apply for this ERNET India job?

ERNET India Jobs 2026 for the post of project engineer suits candidates with a B.Tech, BE, MCA or M.Sc in an electronics, IT or computer-related discipline who have hands-on, post-qualification experience in ICT field installation, training delivery or project management, and who are comfortable with extensive travel across project states. It particularly suits candidates already working in government-funded ICT infrastructure or education-sector projects, since that experience is called out as an advantage.

It may not suit candidates looking for a permanent, pensionable government job — this is a contract appointment, initially for one year, extendable up to three years, and tied to the Smart Classroom Project rather than a regular ERNET India post. Competition depends heavily on which post you apply for: the entry-level Project Engineer Level 02 grade has the most vacancies (3) and the widest applicant pool, while the senior Project Manager posts have only one vacancy each and need significantly more years of experience. The trade-off is straightforward: less job security than a permanent post, in exchange for a faster selection process and a role that can pay well at the senior end.

No. It is a contract appointment, initially for one year and extendable up to three years based on performance and project requirement. This is added context, not part of the official notification — a contract role of this kind generally does not carry the job security of a permanent post, but can offer relevant project-management experience. Confirm current terms with the hiring office.
