SCI Senior Personal Assistant Vacancy and Salary
The Registry has notified 65 tentative vacancies. However, the competent authority can change that number. Meanwhile, the post sits in Level 8 of the Pay Matrix, with a pay range of ₹47,600 to ₹1,51,100 and an initial basic pay of ₹47,600 plus allowances admissible under the Rules.
Reservation benefits SC, ST and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates under Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961. However, the advertisement does not publish a category-wise split.
Eligibility for SCI Senior Personal Assistant
- Nationality: Indian citizen.
- Education: A degree from a recognised university in India.
- Shorthand: English shorthand at a speed of 110 w.p.m.
- Computer skills: Computer operation with a typing speed of 40 w.p.m.
Age limit and relaxation
To be eligible, candidates must be at least 18 and not more than 30 years old as on 1 October 2026. So, use our age calculator to check your age on the cut-off date. Besides this, the usual relaxation applies to SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Physically Challenged and Ex-servicemen candidates as per Government of India rules. In addition, dependants of freedom fighters get relaxation of up to five years. However, there is no upper age limit for departmental candidates of the Registry. In contrast, candidates working in other government departments, PSUs or nationalised banks get no age relaxation.
SCI Senior Personal Assistant Selection Process
Selection has four stages: an objective test, a shorthand test, a typing speed test and an interview. Moreover, candidates must clear the minimum marks in each stage.
Exam pattern
| Test | Duration | Max Marks | Minimum Qualifying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Objective type test (100 questions) | 1½ hours | 100 | 50 |
| Shorthand (English) test at 110 w.p.m. | 7 minutes dictation, 45 minutes transcription | 100 | 50 |
| Typing speed test on computer (English) | 10 minutes | 20 | 10 |
| Interview | Not specified | 30 | 15 |
For example, the objective paper has 25 questions on General English, 25 on General Knowledge, 25 on provisions relating to the Judiciary in the Constitution of India, 15 on the Supreme Court Rules, 2013 and 10 on computer operation. Importantly, there is no negative marking.
Shorthand and typing test rules
- First, the shorthand test allows mistakes up to 5% of the words dictated. For example, a full stop error counts as half a mistake, and so does a capital letter used for a small letter or the reverse.
- Shorthand marks are graded by mistakes: no mistake gets 100%, up to 1% gets 90%, up to 2% gets 80%, up to 3% gets 70%, up to 4% gets 60% and up to 5% gets 50%.
- Similarly, the typing test allows mistakes up to 3% of the words typed. A wrong word or figure is a full mistake. A capital and small letter swap, or an omitted, added or substituted punctuation mark, is a half mistake.
Shortlisting
If many candidates score 50 marks or more in the objective test, the Registry will shortlist candidates in the ratio of 1:10 against the vacancies for the shorthand and typing tests. Candidates who qualify in all three tests will then get an interview call in the ratio of 1:3. The Registry will hold the shorthand and typing tests in Delhi/NCR, while the interview may be online or in person in Delhi.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General/Unreserved | ₹1,500 |
| SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Ex-Servicemen/Physically Challenged | ₹750 |
Please note that bank charges are extra. Candidates applying for this post must pay the fee online through the UCO Bank payment gateway, and the Registry accepts no other mode. The fee is non-refundable. Also, each objection to the answer key costs ₹100, which the Registry refunds if it finds the objection valid.
Test Centres for Candidates in North Bengal, Sikkim and the North East
The Registry will hold the objective test in 69 cities listed in the advertisement. Because of this, candidates choose cities in order of preference, but the Registry can still shift anyone to another city. For readers in North Bengal and Sikkim, however, Siliguri is the nearest listed centre, and Guwahati serves the North East. Besides these, other eastern centres include Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar/Cuttack and Bhagalpur. Pick your preferences carefully, because the Registry does not entertain requests to change a city.

Should You Apply for SCI Senior Personal Assistant?
The SCI Senior Personal Assistant post suits graduates who already hold a shorthand speed of 110 w.p.m. and can type 40 w.p.m. Two of the four stages test these skills directly, and therefore the shorthand test carries the same 100 marks as the objective paper. Because the 65 vacancies are tentative, competition for Supreme Court posts is usually high, so practise dictation and transcription before the December test date.
Apply from 20 October 2026 and submit before 10 November 2026. Meanwhile, keep checking sci.gov.in for the test schedule and admit cards.
