Terms of engagement
The ESIC Joka walk-in interview fills posts on contract, with the terms below.
- The posts are contractual. The first term is one year, and ESIC may extend it up to three years in all, based on satisfactory performance.
- Either side can end the contract with one month’s notice. A resident who resigns without notice must pay one month’s pay in lieu.
- Selected candidates sign a contract on ₹100 stamp paper and bear the cost of the stamp paper.
- Selected candidates deposit ₹32,000 as security, by demand draft in favour of ESI Fund Account No.1, at the time of joining.
- The deposit is refundable only after the engagement ends and on production of a No Dues Certificate. It is not refunded if the resident ends the agreement midway.
- Private practice of any kind is not allowed. The notice allows no TA/DA for joining or any other purpose.
- Quarters are given subject to availability. A resident who gets quarters does not receive House Rent Allowance (HRA).
- The Dean or the Medical Superintendent assigns duties. Residents attend emergency duties and round-the-clock floor duties in shifts.
- Selection gives no right to confirmation or continuation, because regular candidates will fill the posts through selection and appointment.
Eligibility
Candidates for the ESIC Joka walk-in interview must meet the rules below on the date of the interview for their department.
Qualification for non-clinical and clinical departments
- Medical PG degree (MD/MS/DNB) in the concerned speciality, from an institution recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or the National Medical Commission (NMC).
- Or a postgraduate Master of Science with Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry or Medical Physiology.
- Registration with MCI, NMC or a State Medical Council.
- Candidates on bond are not eligible. They must bring a bond clearance certificate from the Appointing Authority after completing the compulsory post-PG bond service.
Qualification for super speciality (Paediatric Surgery)
- DM, MCh or DNB in the concerned subject.
- Or MD, MS or DNB qualified graduates in the concerned broad speciality.
Age limit
- The upper age limit is 45 years for broad specialities. For Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology, it is 50 years.
- The notice counts age, work experience and every other rule on the date of the walk-in interview for the department. Age relaxation follows Central Government rules in force.

Other rules
- Candidates who have completed 3 years as Senior Resident in a Government institution need not apply.
- A Senior Resident working in a Government institution can apply after getting a no objection certificate (NOC) from that institute.
- The total period as Senior Resident must not exceed three years.
Application fee
For the ESIC Joka walk-in interview, candidates in the SC, ST, PwD and women categories, and ex-servicemen, pay no fee. All other candidates pay ₹500.
The fee goes by demand draft (DD) in favour of ESI Fund Account No.1. The DD must be drawn on any scheduled bank, payable at Kolkata, and issued after the date of the advertisement. Candidates submit it with the application form at document verification.
ESIC accepts only a DD, and it does not refund the fee under any circumstances. The notice asks for no payment through any agent. Candidates should pay no agent or middleman for the ESIC Joka walk-in interview. Only the fee stated in the notice is due.

What happens at the ESIC Joka walk-in interview
Document verification starts at 9:30 AM at the Academic Block, 2nd Floor. Candidates who report after 10:30 AM are not considered.
If more than 10 candidates turn up for each post, the competent authority may hold a screening test. The test has multiple-choice questions in the concerned discipline. Marks in the screening test do not count towards final selection.
Performance in the interview is the sole criterion for selection. The ESIC Joka walk-in interview gives no claim to a post through the screening test alone.
The panel stays valid for three months from the date the result is published. ESIC can cancel it earlier without giving a reason.
