About the organisation

Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) is a Chennai-based DRDO laboratory functioning under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. CVRDE works on the design and development of armoured and combat vehicles for the Indian armed forces. An apprenticeship here places a candidate inside a defence-sector engineering and manufacturing environment, which is a different kind of exposure from a typical private-sector ITI apprenticeship. Local context: applying from outside Tamil Nadu

CVRDE’s campus sits in Avadi, on the western side of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Because selection runs entirely through an in-person walk-in interview rather than an online exam, candidates applying from outside Tamil Nadu — including West Bengal, Sikkim and the North East — need to plan travel to Avadi and be present in person on 8 or 9 September 2026. The notice does not mention any domicile restriction or any provision for a remote or online interview. With only a few days between now and the interview dates, registering on the NCVT/SCVT MIS portal without delay matters more than it would for a recruitment with a longer online application window. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the official website.

Should you apply for CVRDE Apprentice Recruitment 2026?

CVRDE Apprentice Recruitment 2026 suits ITI-qualified candidates in one of the 18 listed trades who want hands-on experience in a defence-sector engineering environment and can attend the walk-in interview in Chennai on short notice. It does not suit anyone looking for guaranteed employment afterward — the notice states plainly that no job is guaranteed once the apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, is complete. Competition will vary by trade: trades like Painter, Sheet Metal Worker, Computer Networking Technician and the hardware repair trade have only 1 vacancy each, while COPA (13), Electrician (12) and Draughtsman/Fitter (10 each) have more room. The main trade-off is that this is a stipend-based training placement, not a permanent post, and selection depends on both ITI marks and a walk-in interview rather than a written exam.
