About NIC
The National Informatics Centre was set up in 1976 under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It builds and runs e-Government and e-Governance applications for ministries, states, districts and blocks across India, and describes itself as a driver of the government’s “informatics-led-development” programme. Its work spans ICT infrastructure, national and state-level e-Governance projects, consultancy to government departments, research and development, and capacity building. For a candidate, this means the job sits inside the technical backbone of India’s digital governance systems, not a single department.

How This NIC Scientific and Technical Assistant Job Compares
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
Most central government technical recruitments — SSC, RRB, and similar bodies — run their own written examination and often an interview stage. This NIC recruitment does not. Merit is decided purely on a candidate’s existing GATE score in the relevant paper code, with document verification as the only further stage. NIC Scientific and Technical Assistant Job 2026 suits candidates who already hold a strong GATE score and would rather not sit for another written exam, but it also means a candidate without a valid GATE score in CS, EC or DA cannot apply at all, regardless of their degree or work experience.
Important Dates
The application window is short — under a month — and the eligibility cut-off is tied to the closing date itself, so age, qualification and category status are all locked to the same day.

Selection Process
Selection has no separate written test or interview. It runs entirely on GATE score merit, followed by verification of documents.
- Applications are screened for eligibility as per the criteria above; only eligible, registered candidates move ahead.
- A category-wise merit list is prepared separately for each discipline, ranked by GATE score, with equal weightage given to GATE 2024, 2025 and 2026 scores.
- Ties are resolved in order: the older GATE year ranks higher; if that also ties, the older candidate ranks higher; if still tied, the higher percentage in the essential qualification ranks higher.
- Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification. The authorisation letter must be downloaded from the NIC recruitment website; candidates should check the site regularly for this link.
- After successful document verification, eligible candidates are offered a provisional appointment.
Document verification will be held in Delhi, or at another location or mode approved by the competent authority. No TA/DA is paid for attending document verification, and no request for postponement or change of location will be entertained. A candidate who does not appear for document verification with original documents loses eligibility for provisional appointment.

Should You Apply?
The NIC Scientific and Technical Assistant Job 2026 suits engineering and science graduates or postgraduates who already hold, or are confident of scoring well in, GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026 in the CS, EC or DA paper. It is a genuine Group B central government post with a defined pay scale and no experience requirement, which makes it accessible to fresh GATE candidates as well as working professionals.
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
It does not suit candidates without a valid GATE score in one of the three eligible papers — there is no alternate written-exam route into this recruitment. Competition is effectively against every eligible GATE scorer nationwide in that paper code, for a fixed set of posts per discipline, since merit runs purely on score. The clearest trade-off is the posting liability: NIC can post a selected candidate anywhere in India, or outside India, and the notification states plainly that no query on posting location will be entertained.
