About the organisation

The Uttarakhand Vidyalayi Shiksha Parishad, based in Ramnagar (Nainital), is the state body responsible for conducting the Teacher Eligibility Test in Uttarakhand. It operates under the state education department and is the sole authority that conducts UTET, from registration to declaration of results. A UTET certificate, once earned, is one of the minimum qualifications candidates need before they can be appointed as a teacher in any government, government-aided, or state-recognised school in Uttarakhand.

Exam centres across Uttarakhand

The written exam is proposed across 29 cities spread over all 13 districts of the state, from Haridwar and Dehradun in the plains to Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar in the hills. Candidates pick two preferred exam cities in order of priority while applying; the choice cannot be changed once a centre is allotted. If fewer than 100 candidates opt for a particular city, that city will not get a centre, and candidates will be shifted to their second-choice city or the nearest possible one instead. No travel allowance is paid for appearing in the exam.

This spread means candidates from smaller hill towns are not forced to travel to Dehradun or Haldwani; nearby district towns such as Pauri, Almora, Champawat or Rudraprayag also have centres.

Age limit: Not mentioned in the official notification.

Candidates already enrolled in a 2-year diploma/degree or 4-year degree teacher-training course, or who have taken admission, are also eligible to sit UTET 2026 — but their certificate becomes valid only after they clear that training course.

Who conducts the exam and what it leads to

The exam is conducted entirely by the Uttarakhand Vidyalayi Shiksha Parishad — from application to result declaration. There is no separate interview or physical test; the process is:

  1. Candidate applies online and appears for the written MCQ test.
  2. OMR answer sheets are scanned and evaluated by machine.
  3. A provisional answer key is published; candidates can raise objections by email only, within the notified window.
  4. A final answer key is prepared and the result is declared based on it.

CTET-qualified candidates are also treated as eligible for teacher recruitment in Uttarakhand’s schools, with the same relaxed qualifying marks that apply to UTET for reserved categories. TET certificates from other states are not valid for recruitment in Uttarakhand — only UTET or CTET count.

A UTET certificate is valid for life, and there is no limit on how many times a candidate can attempt the test, including to improve an existing score.

Should you apply?

UTET 2026 is worth attempting for anyone who has completed, or is currently enrolled in, a recognised teacher-training course such as D.El.Ed./B.T.C. or B.Ed., and who wants to teach in a government or government-aided school in Uttarakhand. It is also open to serving in-service teachers who want a valid TET certificate, and to candidates who already hold a UTET or CTET pass but want to improve their score, since there is no cap on attempts and no age limit stated in this notice.

It does not suit candidates who have no interest in teaching as a career, since clearing UTET only makes a candidate eligible to apply for teaching posts — it does not lead to a job offer by itself, and recruitment happens through separate exercises run by the state government. Candidates who already hold a valid TET from another state should also note it will not be accepted for recruitment in Uttarakhand; they will need to clear UTET or CTET specifically.

The honest trade-off here is time and cost versus optionality: the fee is modest (₹300–₹1,000) and the certificate lasts a lifetime, but candidates still need to separately clear whatever recruitment exam or interview process the state runs later for the actual teaching post.

FAQs

Is UTET 2026 a recruitment exam with job vacancies?

No. UTET is a qualifying test under the RTE Act, 2009. Clearing it makes a candidate eligible to apply for teacher posts in Uttarakhand’s schools; it does not itself offer any job or vacancy.

Can a candidate apply for both UTET-I and UTET-II with one registration?

Yes. A candidate can select “Both (UTET-I & II)” in the same online application and does not need to register separately for each level.

Will a TET certificate from another state work for a Uttarakhand teaching job?

No. As per the brochure, TET certificates from other states are not valid for recruitment in Uttarakhand. Only UTET or CTET certificates are accepted here.

How long is a UTET certificate valid, and can it be reattempted?

A UTET certificate is valid for a candidate’s lifetime once earned. There is no restriction on the number of attempts — a candidate can also retake UTET later just to improve their score.
