Eligibility

Age limit (as corrected by the corrigendum dated 29.06.2026):

• 18 to 30 years as on 01.07.2025 for UR and EWS candidates.
• SC/ST candidates get a relaxation of 5 years.
• OBC candidates get a relaxation of 3 years.
• Central Government servants get relaxation up to 40 years, as per existing government instructions.

Educational and technical qualification:

• A certificate in the respective trade from a Technical Institution recognised by the Government, OR
• VIII Std. pass with 1 year of experience in the respective trade. An experience certificate is compulsory for candidates applying with only a VIII Std. pass.
• Candidates applying for M.V. Mechanic must hold a valid HMV Driving Licence, since they will be tested on driving a vehicle in service.

Selection Process

Selection is a single-stage process based on skill, not a written exam. Applications are first checked against the eligibility criteria, and only eligible candidates are called forward.

1. Scrutiny of applications against eligibility criteria.
2. Competitive Trade Test in the candidate’s specific trade.

The syllabus, date, venue, and duration of the Trade Test will be sent to eligible candidates along with their Hall Permit. No travel allowance (TA/DA) will be paid for attending the test.

Application Fee

• Application fee: Rs. 100, paid as an Indian Postal Order (IPO) or UCR receipt in the name of “The Manager, Mail Motor Service, Bengaluru-01.”
• Examination fee: Rs. 400, paid the same way, after the candidate receives the Hall Permit, and carried to the Trade Test along with the payment receipt.
• SC/ST candidates and women are exempted from both the application fee and the examination fee.
• The application fee is not refundable once submitted.

1. Write the application on plain paper, in the prescribed format, in English or Hindi.
2. Fill it completely and sign it by hand.
3. Paste one self-attested passport-size photograph in the space provided.
4. Attach the application fee (IPO or UCR receipt of Rs. 100) and all required self-attested documents.
5. Use a separate application and a separate envelope for each trade if applying for more than one trade.
6. Write “Application for the post of Skilled Artisan in trade _____” on both the application and the envelope.
7. Send it only by Speed Post to: The Manager, Mail Motor Service, Department of Posts, No. 4, Basaveshwara Road, Vasanth Nagar, Bengaluru-560001.
8. Ensure it reaches the office on or before 18 July 2026, 5:00 PM. Applications sent by courier or any mode other than Speed Post will be rejected.

India Post no longer offers standalone Registered Post (Domestic) as of September 2025, so Speed Post is the safest option now.

This suits candidates who already hold a recognised trade certificate or an ITI qualification in M.V. Mechanic, Upholstery, Carpentry, or Painting, and who are comfortable with a hands-on skill test rather than a written exam.
