About Mail Motor Service, India Post
Mail Motor Service is the transport wing of the Department of Posts. It runs and maintains the vehicles that carry mail between post offices, sorting hubs, and railway stations. How This Vacancy at India Post Compares
This is added context based on similar past recruitments, not part of the official notification. Confirm current openings with the hiring office.
Mail Motor Service units and other Department of Posts workshops across India release Skilled Artisan or Tradesmen vacancies from time to time, usually in small batches of a handful of posts per notification, similar to this one. Compared to open-market ITI jobs, this recruitment offers Central Government pay scale, allowances, and long-term job security, but the number of seats is small and reservation-based, so competition per seat can be high, especially for the Upholster and Painter posts, which are open to unreserved candidates.

💡 Tips for Sending Application through India Post Service
Send your application by Speed Post with Acknowledgement Card (AD Card) [Posting Charge Starts from Rs. 47/- depending on weight]— you’ll get delivery confirmation right at your doorstep. India Post no longer offers standalone Registered Post (Domestic) as of September 2025, so Speed Post is the safest option now.
Use a thick green envelope to protect your documents from damage in transit. Write your contact number clearly on the back of the envelope.
Arrange your documents in this order before sealing: application form first, then educational certificates, then experience documents. Punch a small hole on the top-left corner of the entire set and tie it neatly with a thread.
Only enclose what is asked for. Extra documents increase postage costs and make it harder for the employer to sort through your application. [This is General tips follow information as advised in official notification]

Should You Apply for this Vacancy at India Post?
This suits candidates who already hold a recognised trade certificate or an ITI qualification in M.V. Mechanic, Upholstery, Carpentry, or Painting, and who are comfortable with a hands-on skill test rather than a written exam. It especially suits those based in or near Bengaluru, since the post is location-fixed and there is no transfer clause mentioned in the notification.
It does not suit candidates without any trade certificate or relevant experience, since VIII Std. pass alone is not accepted without one year of proven experience. With only 4 posts and category-specific breakup, competition for each individual trade will likely be limited to candidates who meet that trade’s exact requirement, but the total number of seats is small.
One trade-off to consider: the pay scale (Rs. 19,900–63,200) is on the lower end of Central Government Group-C pay, though it comes with allowances and long-term security.
FAQs
Is there a written exam for this recruitment?
No. Selection is only through a Competitive Trade Test in the candidate’s specific trade. There is no written examination mentioned in the notification.
Can one candidate apply for more than one trade?
Yes, but only with a separate application and a separate envelope for each trade. Applying for more than one trade in a single application will lead to rejection.
How does this compare to similar artisan posts in other postal circles?
Other Mail Motor Service units and postal workshops release similar small-batch Skilled Artisan vacancies from time to time. Pay scale and eligibility are usually similar, but vacancy count, trade mix, and location vary by notice, so candidates should treat each notification separately.
