IOB has announced two key dates so far for IOB Security Guard Recruitment 2026: the opening and closing of online registration. The exam date, call letter and Physical Fitness Test schedule have not been announced yet and will follow on the same website.

Candidates who report after the reporting time printed on their call letter will not be permitted to take the Online Test or the Physical Fitness Test — but IOB has not yet released exam dates or exact reporting times; these will be sent through the call letter closer to the exam.

IOB Security Guard Recruitment 2026- Vacancy details and salary

The pay scale above is the 12th Bipartite Settlement subordinate-cadre scale. Basic pay for selected candidates will be fixed based on their last drawn salary during defence service, in addition to other emoluments under the Bipartite Settlement and the Bank’s policies.

IOB Security Guard Recruitment 2026 – Eligibility

Nationality: Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 intending to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from certain listed countries with an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.

Age (as on 01.08.2026): Minimum 18 years, maximum 26 years, with the following relaxation for Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers:

The 45-year cap applies uniformly to all Ex-Servicemen categories, including reserved candidates.

Educational qualification: A pass in the 10th standard or equivalent examination — but the candidate should not have passed Graduation or an equivalent examination. The candidate must also be able to speak, read and write Tamil. Ex-Servicemen who do not hold this civil qualification may instead qualify as matriculates who hold the Army Special Certificate of Education (or the equivalent Navy/Air Force certificate) after completing 15 years or more of service in the Armed Forces, provided the certificate is dated on or before the cut-off date.

Character and medical standard: Character must be rated “EXEMPLARY” at the time of valid discharge from the Armed Forces. Candidates must hold a minimum medical category of SHAPE-1 or AYE at the time of valid discharge.

Who cannot apply for IOB Security Guard Recruitment 2026: Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Disabled Ex-Servicemen (disabled during operations or otherwise), and dependants of servicemen killed in action are not eligible for this recruitment. This post is not identified for PWD reservation.

Candidates in the OBC category who fall under the “Creamy Layer” are not entitled to OBC reservation and must apply under the General category.

Selection process

The selection process for IOB Security Guard Recruitment 2026 is a three-stage process, and the final merit list is drawn up category-wise by adding the marks from all three stages together.

1. Objective Type Test (Online) — 80 marks total. (Test Maximum Marks)
2. Knowledge of English Language: 20
3. Aptitude Test: 20
4. Arithmetic Test: 20
5. Psychometric Test: 20
6. Total: 80
7. Local Language Test (Tamil) — conducted separately, for a maximum of 20 marks.
8. Physical Fitness Test — 100 marks total, with a qualifying score of 65. Candidates must also individually clear the qualifying score in each of the four sub-tests below; scoring the overall total without clearing every sub-test does not qualify a candidate. For the 1 Km run: under 4 minutes scores 30, 4–5 minutes scores 20, 5–6 minutes scores 10, and over 6 minutes is a fail. The Drill test scores 2.5 marks each for Word of Command, Saavdhan/Vishram, Dahine Mur/Baen Mur, and Saluting (stationary/moving).

Candidates need a medical fitness certificate, not older than 15 days on the date of the Physical Fitness Test, from a registered medical practitioner of a rank not below Civil Assistant Surgeon, before undergoing the test. Each Physical Fitness Test component allows only one attempt — there is no repeat attempt under any circumstances. The Physical Fitness Test will be held at IOB’s Central Office, Chennai, and requests for a change of date or centre will not be entertained.

Application fee

There is no application fee for this recruitment. All eligible Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers can apply free of cost.

How to apply

1. Go to www.iob.bank.in, open the “Careers” page, and select “Recruitment of Security Guards.”
2. Click “Apply Online,” then “Click here to Register Online” to begin registration.
3. Note the system-generated Registration Number and Password sent by email and SMS — this is needed for the rest of the process.
4. Upload photograph and signature scans as per the specifications in Annexure I of the notification.
5. Capture a live photo within the application portal.
6. Fill in all required details in the online application form carefully, matching names exactly as they appear on certificates.
7. Click “COMPLETE REGISTRATION” at the end of the form.
8. Take a printout of the submitted application form and keep it safe.
9. Upload the Left Thumb Impression and the Handwritten Declaration under the “Uploads” menu.

• Scanned signature: 140×60 pixels, file size 10–20KB

• Scanned handwritten declaration in English, in the candidate’s own handwriting, not in capital letters: 10cm × 5cm / 800×400 pixels at 200 DPI, file size 50–100KB

• Ex-Servicemen Identity Card and Discharge Book (needed at the Physical Fitness Test stage, not at registration)

Should you apply?

This post suits Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers who hold a 10th-standard qualification, read and write Tamil, are medically fit at SHAPE-1/AYE level, and want a permanent, pensionable-track job in a nationalised bank’s subordinate cadre. It does not suit graduates, since passing Graduation disqualifies a candidate outright, or candidates without Tamil proficiency, since the notification does not offer any exemption from the language test for this post.

With only 25 posts, competition will still be real even though the eligible pool — Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers with a Tamil-language background — is narrower than a general open recruitment. The honest trade-off is cadre level: this is a subordinate-staff post, not an officer post, so the pay ceiling and career progression are lower than IOB’s graduate-entry recruitment. In exchange, candidates get a straightforward three-stage selection (no interview), no application fee, and a six-month probation before confirmation. Posting is not fixed to Chennai — the Bank can post selected candidates anywhere in Tamil Nadu, and only candidates willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, should apply.
