Eligibility Criteria for SSC CGL 2026

SSC CGL 2026 salary eligibility age limit qualification :The eligibility criteria for Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 include education and age requirements. Candidates should make sure they meet all the conditions before applying.

Educational Qualification

The educational qualification varies based on the post. Candidates must possess the required qualification as on 01 August 2026.

For Assistant Audit Officer (Central Cadre):

  • Essential: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute
  • Desirable: Chartered Accountant or Cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics

For Assistant Audit Officer (State Cadre) and Assistant Accounts Officer (State Cadre):

  • Essential: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute AND proficiency in the Regional/official language of the State at matriculation level
  • Desirable: Same as above

For Junior Statistical Officer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level

For Statistical Investigator Grade-II:

  • Bachelor degree in Statistics or Mathematics or Economics or Demography or Population Studies or Operation Research or Information Technology or Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Computer Technology or Computer Application or Data Science or Artificial Intelligence from a recognized University or Institute

For All Other Posts:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent

Candidates who have appeared in their final year of graduation can also apply, however they must possess the essential qualification by 01 August 2026. Candidates will need to produce degree certificates, mark sheets, or provisional certificates during document verification.

Age Limit

As of 01 August 2026, candidates must meet the following age requirements based on the post applied for:

For posts with age limit 18-27 years:

For posts with age limit 20-30 years:

The date of birth recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate will be accepted by the Commission and no subsequent request for change will be considered.

Selection Process for SSC CGL 2026

The selection process for Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 is conducted in two tiers through computer-based examinations. Both tiers are mandatory and candidates must qualify in each stage to move forward.

The selection process consists of the following stages:

  1. Tier-I (Computer Based Examination) – This is the preliminary screening stage consisting of objective type multiple choice questions. The examination tests General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Each section has 25 questions for a total of 100 questions worth 200 marks. The examination duration is 1 hour with sectional timing of 15 minutes for each subject. There is negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
  2. Tier-II (Computer Based Examination) – Candidates who qualify Tier-I will be called for Tier-II examination. This consists of Paper-I (compulsory for all posts), Paper-II (for Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II posts only), and Paper-III (for Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer only). Paper-I includes four sections: Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning and General Intelligence, English Language and Comprehension, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge Test, and Data Entry Speed Test. The Computer Knowledge Test and Data Entry Speed Test are qualifying in nature.
  3. Document Verification – Candidates who qualify both tiers will be called for document verification where they must produce original certificates of educational qualification, age, caste category, disability certificate (if applicable), and other relevant documents.

During document verification, candidates must carry original certificates such as Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate for date of birth proof, graduation degree certificate or provisional certificate, mark sheets for all years/semesters, caste certificate (if claiming reservation), disability certificate (if applicable), and other relevant documents as specified in the notification.

Application Fee for SSC CGL 2026

The application fee for Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 is minimal to encourage maximum participation.

Fee Structure:

  • UR / OBC / EWS (Male Candidates): ₹100
  • Women Candidates: Nil (Exempted)
  • SC / ST Candidates: Nil (Exempted)
  • PwBD Candidates: Nil (Exempted)
  • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Nil (Exempted)

Payment Mode: Fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.

Last Date for Fee Payment: 23 June 2026 (23:00 hours)

Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances nor will it be adjusted against any other examination or selection. Candidates must ensure that the fee is deposited successfully and the application status shows “Complete” on the SSC portal.

How to Apply – SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 apply online

Applications must be submitted only in online mode through the official SSC website. Follow the step-by-step process given below to complete your application successfully.

  1. Visit the official website of Staff Selection Commission at https://ssc.gov.in or use the my SSC mobile application available on Google Play Store.
  2. On the homepage, click on the “Apply” section and select “Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026” notification link.
  3. If you are a new user, complete the One Time Registration (OTR) process first by providing your basic details, email ID, and mobile number. Existing users can directly login using their credentials.
  4. After registration or login, fill in the online application form carefully with all the required details including personal information, educational qualification, category, examination centre preference, and post preference.
  5. Upload a recent passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format. The photograph should be captured live using webcam during the application process or uploaded in JPEG/JPG format (20 to 50 KB for photo, 10 to 20 KB for signature).
  6. Preview the completed application form thoroughly before final submission. Check all the details carefully as correction window is provided only once after the application deadline.
  7. Pay the application fee online through the available payment options (BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Debit Card). Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwBD/ESM categories are exempted from fee payment.
  8. After successful payment, submit the application form and take a printout of the confirmation page for future reference.
  9. Note down the Registration ID and Password for future login and keep the acknowledgment receipt safely until the completion of the recruitment process.

Candidates are advised to submit applications well before the deadline to avoid last-minute rush and technical issues. The Commission will not be responsible for candidates not being able to submit applications on account of heavy load on the website during closing days.

Can I apply for SSC CGL 2026 if I am in my final year of graduation?

Yes, candidates who have appeared in their final year of graduation can apply. However, you must possess the essential educational qualification by 01 August 2026 and produce proof during document verification.

Is there negative marking in the SSC CGL examination?

Yes. In Tier-I, there is negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer. In Tier-II Paper-I Section-I, II, and III, there is 1 mark deduction per wrong answer, while Paper-II and Paper-III have 0.50 marks negative marking.

Can I change my examination centre after submitting the application?
