The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA) for the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Examination 2025. If you took the Skill Test for this exam, this is the update you have been waiting for. In this post, we will break down everything about SSC Stenographer 2025 FRTA Result — who got selected, how many seats were filled, the cut-off marks, and what to do next.
All the details in this article have been verified from the official SSC Notification No. No.E/16/2025-C-2 SECTION dated 18th June 2026
What Is the SSC Steno FRTA 2025?
After the Stenography Skill Test, SSC does not declare a normal “final result.” Instead, it follows a Sliding Mechanism, a new process introduced through a notice dated 03.03.2026. Under this system, SSC first prepares a tentative allocation list based on the choices candidates submitted online. This is called the First Round of Tentative Allocation, or FRTA.
Think of it like a school admission list — first, seats are allotted based on your preference and merit. Later, students who don’t join free up their seats for others. That is exactly what the Sliding Mechanism does for SSC Steno candidates.

How Many Candidates Appeared and Qualified?
Here is a quick snapshot of the numbers from the official notice:
| Detail | Stenographer Grade ‘C’ | Stenographer Grade ‘D’ |
|---|---|---|
| Candidates qualified for Skill Test | 8,624 | 22,456 |
| Candidates who appeared in Skill Test | 4,907 | 12,564 |
| Candidates who submitted preference online | Included in 10,132 (combined) | Included in 10,132 (combined) |
A total of 10,132 candidates submitted their post and department preferences online between 05.05.2026 and 08.05.2025 (as per the official notice), and these candidates were considered for the FRTA.
Cut-Off: Allowed Percentage of Mistakes
SSC fixes a category-wise error limit in the Skill Test. Here’s what was allowed this year:
| Post | UR Category | Reserved Categories |
|---|---|---|
| Stenographer Grade ‘C’ | Up to 5% mistakes | Up to 7% mistakes |
| Stenographer Grade ‘D’ | Up to 7% mistakes | Up to 10% mistakes |
Total Vacancies and Candidates Recommended
Stenographer Grade ‘C’
| Category | Vacancies | Candidates Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| SC | 22 | 22 |
| ST | 14 | 10 |
| OBC | 50 | 50 |
| EWS | 27 | 27 |
| UR | 119 | 119 |
| Total | 232 | 228 |
Note: No eligible candidate was found for the remaining 4 ST vacancies in Grade ‘C’.
Stenographer Grade ‘D’
| Category | Vacancies | Candidates Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| SC | 190 | 190 |
| ST | 86 | 86 |
| OBC | 350 | 350 |
| EWS | 146 | 146 |
| UR | 711 | 711 |
| ESM | 106 | 5 |
| Total | 1,483 | 1,483 |
You will notice that the ESM (Ex-Servicemen) category had a big gap between vacancies and candidates recommended in Grade ‘D’ — only 5 out of 106 seats were filled in this round. This gap is exactly what the upcoming Sliding Mechanism aims to fix.
Last Candidate Cut-Off Marks: A Few Examples
Every Ministry/Department (called a “Post Code”) has its own cut-off, since candidates chose their preferred department. Here are a few examples to give you an idea (full list is in the official notice):
| Post Code | Department | Category | Last Candidate’s Total Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| C3 | Ministry of External Affairs | UR | 160.70 |
| C6 | Ministry of Defence (AFHQ) | UR | 153.70 |
| D48 | Income Tax Dept (CBDT) | UR | 145.99 |
| D31 | DoPT | UR | 152.70 |
| D16 | Ministry of External Affairs | UR | 162.43 |
As you can see, marks vary quite a bit from one department to another, since each department has limited seats and different competition levels.

How Were Tie Cases Resolved?
If two candidates scored the same total marks, SSC used this order to break the tie:
- Marks in Part-III (English Language & Comprehension)
- Marks in Part-II (General Awareness)
- Date of birth — older candidate gets preference
- Alphabetical order of name
Cancelled and Debarred Candidates
The Commission also cancelled the candidature of 2 candidates and debarred 7 more candidates from various Regional Offices for reasons mentioned in the official notice. If your roll number appears in such lists, it is best to contact your Regional Office directly.
What Is the Sliding Mechanism and What Happens Next?
This is the most important part for many candidates. The Sliding Mechanism gives a second chance to fill up seats that remain vacant — for example, because some selected candidates do not join, or because no eligible candidate was available (like the ST seats in Grade ‘C’).
Here is the schedule announced by SSC:
| Activity | Dates |
|---|---|
| Choosing venue, date, and slot for sliding (online) | 19 June 2026 to 22 June 2026 |
| Physical Sliding Process at Regional Office cities | 1 July 2026 to 2 July 2026 |
Important: If you are eligible and do not attend the sliding process in person, you will be treated as absent and will not be considered in the final result. So mark these dates on your calendar.

When Will Marks Be Released?
According to the notice, SSC will upload the marks of selected and non-selected candidates on its official website only after the final result of the exam is declared. So, you will need to wait a little longer for individual marks.
