About Indian Overseas Bank
Indian Overseas Bank is a Public Sector Bank headquartered in Chennai, with branches across India and abroad. For a candidate, an apprenticeship here means one year of structured, on-the-job exposure to banking operations inside a large public sector network. It is not a regular job offer, but it is a recognised entry point that many candidates later use while applying for regular clerical or officer-level bank exams. For more current openings, see the latest government job listings on IndiaJobAlerts.

How This Recruitment Compares
This is added context based on similar past recruitments, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
This is an all-India engagement, so vacancies are open in almost every state and union territory rather than one fixed location. Compared to a regular bank job, an apprenticeship pays a fixed monthly stipend rather than a full salary, and it does not guarantee a job at the end of the one-year term. Candidates who want a regular officer-level banking role instead of an apprenticeship can also track the SBI PO 2026 notification, and those interested in specialised banking-defence roles can look at the SBI Defence Banking Advisor recruitment. Many candidates use an apprenticeship like this one as work experience while they continue to attempt regular bank recruitment exams.

Candidates should keep the fee payment deadline and the tentative exam date noted separately, since they fall after the application closing date.

- Online written examination — 100 marks, 90 minutes, covering General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative & Reasoning Aptitude, and Computer/Subject Knowledge (25 marks each). SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates get a 5% relaxation in the qualifying percentage.

- Document verification and personal interaction, at a centre decided by the Bank.
- Medical fitness examination.
One practical point from the notification: the online exam must be taken using the candidate’s own front-camera-enabled desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone, and the same ID proof uploaded during application must be shown on camera.

Fee is non-refundable and must be paid online on the BEEP portal between 07.07.2026 and 22.07.2026.

Should You Apply?
This vacancy suits graduates who want structured, paid exposure to banking operations, especially those still preparing for regular bank exams like PO or Clerk. The stipend is modest and there is no guarantee of a permanent job afterward, so it is not a fit for someone who needs a stable, long-term income right away. Competition will likely be high in states with fewer seats, such as Karnataka or Telangana with 6 seats each, compared to Tamil Nadu’s 200. One honest trade-off: a year here builds real banking-floor experience and looks good on a resume, but candidates should keep applying to regular recruitment exams in parallel rather than treating this as a final career step.
